A Flight to Heaven

I planned for a holiday trip in United Arab Emirates to visit my wife and to be with her for a medical check up for our upcoming baby. She already at her 5th month and it's time to know the gender of our baby. I'm really excited to become a Father.

I suffered from a dilemma of visiting or not because of my preparation for my start up business in Rome, Italy. The application of visit visa and booking of ticket added to my worries. She said that she will not disclosed the gender of our baby unless I will come with her, without any hesitation, I said "ok, you can apply my visa and I will book my ticket."

As a frequent traveler, I know how to get a cheap flights but I have only 3 days left after my visa got approved. Upon checking. most of the flight tickets went up already, I encountered Air Serbia thru the search engine Expedia and Last Minute, the first time I heard the airline which is a partner of Etihad Airways, this is a cheapest flight with stop over in Belgrade then direct to Abu Dhabi Airport. I booked it thru Go To Gate website:

Everything went well for my two weeks holiday, I was able to visit great places such as Burj Khalifa, Wild Wadi Park, Palm Jumeirah, Miracle Garden, Global Village etc. etc.

Of course, the important part of the trip is to know the gender of our baby,  a healthy baby girl. A name is already given "Maria Athena Ruiz", it was after my nick name ATHAN and Greek god of wisdom Athena , added the name Maria  after my wife's first name Marie Kaye.

Indeed, I enjoyed my time with my wife, families, friends, and few members of PAM Academy

I know you are wondering, Why the title of this blog post "A flight to heaven", here is the short overview of what happened on my last day in UAE and with my flight coming back to Rome.

December 12, 2014 is my flight going back to Rome, Italy. I woke up early in the morning around 3:30 am to prepare myself for my flight 8:20 from Abu Dhabi to Belgrade, then few hours of stop over in Belgrade going back to Rome. My wife asked a favor to his brother in law to drive us from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi, and he said yes.

On our way to Abu Dhabi, we encounter a foggy road which gave his brother a hard time to drive, he follow the speed limits and carefully follow the road signs which could not be seen clearly. We stop by at Ad nook to have a fuel and coffee for his brother to keep awake. Thank God, we arrived safe in Abu Dhabi Airport after 2 hours.

At the check in area, I was accompanied by my wife and everything went smoothly from checking of my visa, passport, ticket flight. The flight attendant gave back my passport and he said to wait for the baggage tag because the printer is not working. He called a technician and I waited for 20 minutes before my baggage sent in the conveyor.

It's time to say goodbye to my wife, I whispered "I love you so much and take care of our Baby Athena" then I leave without looking back because I'm getting teary eyes.

I boarded on the plane with a smile and start taking pictures of myself because I have a window seat.

I looked at the outside window and everything looks ok  but I smell a gas leak, I ignore it and thought that is normal because the pilot announce that the plane is undergoing fuel. I continue reading my book.

After an hour, the pilot made an announcement about the flight in Arabic and repeated in English, being focus on the book that I'm reading (the power of focus), I called the attention of flight attendant and asks to repeat the message of the pilot. The attendant replied and said that we are going back and land to the Abu Dhabi airport due to a problem which is unknown. This is the reason why I title it "A Flight To Heaven".  The fear of not seeing my upcoming baby and being able to be with my wife on her delivery gave me a cold sweat. I stayed alert and whisper a prayer.

I thank God because plane landed safely and probably will not be able to write this blog post, if the landing did not went well.

It is only an overview of what happened and I will post on my next blog the voice conversations of travelers to the representatives of the airlines, the holding of passengers for 30 minutes inside the airport bus, the queu line for rebooking of passengers ticket, the chaos on the transit desks, my baggage arrived after a day etc. etc.
As of this writing, I'm writing my claims to the airlines for the delay and baggage damage.

I realized that we should always take every moment to say to our families and friends that we loved them. On that day, I called my Father that is celebrating his birthday but did n't mentioned about what happened on the flight.

I hope you learned something on my experience on this flight.

Sincerely yours,
